To cleanse or not to cleanse?

So I will admit I never used to cleanse...

Now some may think that this is despicable and be shocked at this admission of mine.
However I am sure that there are plenty of girls out there which have taken a lax approach to facial cleansing.

FOR GOODNESS SAKE I only just realised you can purchase cleansing products for your hair .... I think that says it all.

Following this as you can see I have clearly started to include this step in my skin care routine
hence the blog post!

Below I have inserted a photo of the current cleansers I am testing out.

I will go ahead and list them for you...

OLE HENRIKSEN - Empower Foaming  Milk Cleanser
THE BODY SHOP - Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter
ORIGINS - A Perfect World - Deep Cleanser with White Tea
KORRES - Milk Proteins - 3 in 1 Cleansing Emulsion
FIRST AID BEAUTY - Pure Skin Face Cleanser

Side not: I USE ALL CLEANSERS WITH MY MAGNITONE (PHOTO WILL FOLLOW)

OLE HENRIKSEN - Empower Foaming  Milk Cleanser

Description? Boosts skin vitality and flow. With arctic cloudberry, nordic cotton and willow bark extracts.

First thoughts? This is a cleanser which has a milky, creamy consistency. I like these kinds of cleansers, my skin tends to be on the dryer side and these kinds of cleansers work  really well with my skin type. I  also love the smell of this product! you can defiantly smell a blend of berry and cotton with woody undertone.

Works? I don't think this cleanser lends well to its name, I don't personally find that this "foams" but this might be the way I am using the product with my magnitone. But! this hasn't changed my opinion I still really like this product and find that it does cleanse my skin well.

8/10

THE BODY SHOP - Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Butter

Description? (WEB) This cleanser is an indulgent make-up remover for the whole face. It gently and efficiently melts away make-up and impurities, leaving skin feeling clean, refreshed and pampered.

First thoughts? LOVE this. I don't think I could say one bad thing about this cleanser. I was recommended this by a friend who's sister works at The Body Shop and you know what! I am so glad I listened.
Has a really subtle scent, and super gentle on the skin. This product is a more luxurious thicker creamy based product than the others mentioned in this post.

Works? I tend to try and use this only once a week as I find it a little heavy, not that I think this is a bad thing but I generally like to use the other cleansers as a day to day. A lot goes a long way, and my skin is super super soft after every use with my magnitone.

A must buy!
10/10

ORIGINS - A Perfect World - Deep Cleanser with White Tea

Description? (WEB)  Foaming face wash formulated with nature's antioxidant White Tea. In a pre-emptive sweep, dirt-grabbing minerals combined with the gentle, skin-compatible cleansing action reach deep to help detoxify and free skin of harmful impurities.

First thoughts? I love the scent of all Origin products who doesn't? They all seem to have a perfect fruity blend that simply makes you want to smother yourself in the product.. well this does exactly that.

Works? This product lathers up really well, and leaves skin feeling super soft. The only problem with this product personally is the price... compared to the Body Shop cleanser which is nearly £10.00 cheaper! I probably won't be repurchasing this in the full size.

7/10

KORRES - Milk Proteins - 3 in 1 Cleansing Emulsion

Description? 3 in 1 emulsion that cleanses, tones and removes make-up from face and eyes.

First thoughts? The name of the product completely threw me off as the product had a very light sweet scent, which I didn't expect but was glad that it did!
On first thoughts I will be honest I wasn't that impressed with this product, I wasn't sure it did very much and disregarded it. However I decided to try this out again and found that it really helped to calm my skin on days where I found I was having break outs or had general redness to my cheeks.

Works? I am definitely thinking about purchasing the full size of this product as I find it really calms my skin and is a nice break to the thicker and more foamy cleansers in my beauty stash.

8/10

FIRST AID BEAUTY - Pure Skin Face Cleanser

Description? FAB Antioxidant booster, removes surface oils, makeup dirt and grime, and safe for sensitive skin. Described as a airy cream that gently cleanses skin.

First thoughts? This was one of the first cleansers I tried and I really liked. The consistency is nice, the scent is okay and its great with sensitive skin.

Works? As I said above I do like this product, and lent towards using this when I started out adding a cleanser to my regime. However I am starting to dislike the scent of this product.. the scent isn't particularly harsh it just smells to me like a basic shampoo(hair product) scent.
I love the consistency and I find this product lathers up the most and produces more of a foam than the others. However I am just not convinced by the scent at the moment and to be honest I am hoping to find a similar product in; lather, foam and results, but which has a scent that I would more likely gravitate to.

7/10

Coconut Flour Pancakes?!!

Yes I have finally mastered a fully working coconut flour recipe!
Before finally mastering this I spent hours last night and about 2 different batches of pancakes and the mixture just kept clumping together like a dough ball and was never a   a pancake batter consistency...
I got really really annoyed with myself and the recipes I was following!
And you should know coconut flour doesn't come cheap!
(well not as cheap as normal flour anyways)
I bought mine at Holland and Barrett (Buy one get one half price at the moment!)

So after getting totally frustrated I left the kitchen and returned to my laptop and scrolled through the internet looking for more recipes and for any comments saying that more people had also failed!
And I found tons of people who had the same problems as me!!
This made me feel a whole lot better,
I also thought I would  check out youtube this way I could see the consistency I was trying to get!
I found a couple of videos which were helpful: LINKED HERE>
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFf94XcO3Po - This is called "Flat Stomach Pancakes"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gROg24jBJWc - "Coconut Pancakes made easy!"

I found these really useful!

When I was trying to make my first batches the night before I was trying to just use egg whites, now this probably would have worked in the end if I had maybe doubled the amount of egg whites I was using and used about XL eggs!
And I am going to try this out!
BUT
In the end the videos showed me and told me that you know just go ahead and use the whole egg!
I know "egg yolks" are very rarely used in healthy, eat clean recipes but the yolk aint really that bad so just use it!! :)

Anyways lets get down to the recipe!
I took this recipe from a lot of different US recipes and the youtube videos and adapted it to try and make sure mine worked!

RECIPE : Coconut Flour FLUFFY THICK pancakes

Ingredients:

- 3 Large Eggs
- 1/2 cup of Almond Milk
-  1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
- 2 Tablespoons of Coconut Flour
- 1/2 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- Sweetener to taste

-Low calorie/light butter or coconut oil

Method

- Just before I started I turned the hob on and left the pan to heat up as it needs to be really really hot to stop the pancakes from sticking !

- Okay so I started with mixing all the wet ingredients together I whisked these together to make sure that it was all combined
-Stop when its frothy and has a few bubbles on the top
-I then added the coconut flour and baking powder
-Mix this in a little with a fork
-Then whisk this up because it can be very very lumpy
If your mixture is very very runny then add a little more coconut flour
BUT be wary coconut flour likes to soak up a lot of liquid and this is why I was failing before!
-I then added a bit of sweetener on top and mixed in with a fork
(I think I needed a little bit more as they weren't sweet enough for me)

-Next I added a knob of butter to the frying pan (or you can use a skillet)
-When this has melted all over the pan add a little of the mixture and spread out a little but leaving it slightly thick (thicker than crepes)
-When cooking these take a little longer than normal pancakes
-When slightly bubbled around the edges and when you can get a spatula right under it flip it over make sure to be careful as these can break really easily!

-Cook for a couple minutes on each side until browned off and looks cooked through!
-Repeat this with the rest of the mixture and stack up!

NOW do a little dance and then dig in!
(I did a massive jump for joy dance as I was so thrilled that I had finally succeeded at making a coconut flour pancake!)

Now as you can see I have quite a lot of pancakes here and I can tell you I only ate about half... all over IG everyone seems to have this many pancakes all pilled up and so I thought I could eat this much but couldn't!
so I would say this recipe could feed two people!

- make sure to top with what ever you want!
I used Walden Farms Pancake Syrup which is AMAZING and calorie free and fat free !!!
(Can buy on amazon.co.uk)

--------------------------------------------

Nutritional Information:
(now this can vary and I am not an expert so this is an average of what I have worked out from online and from the products I used)

Calories: 313
Fat: 24.2g
Carbs: 6g

Okay the calories may seem high BUT
you  could make this lower if you changed the eggs to eggs whites or an egg white substitute
but you need the same amount of liquid!

------------------------------------------------------

Also I would like to highlight to you the nutritional values of normal pancakes:
520 calories
14.g fat
Carbs: 90.9g
And that is for 2 pancakes!

Now of course this will change based on what ingredients used and all sorts of things but this just shows how different the values add up!!

Her blog is amazing!!

Okay so if you make these or have any questions PLEASE leave me a comment :)
and enjoy!!

Smoked Haddock and Sweet Potato Pie

So again I haven't blogged in a while but here we go anyway :)
I have made this dish a few times now and have fallen in love with it!
And its super super easy to make!
It's also not super expensive to make so great for students or for those trying not to spend to much.
This recipe is NOT my own and you can probably find similar on the internet but I wanted to post this anyway!
As I said in my last blog post I have started eating healthier and reading blogs have been a great inspiration and Instagram has also been extremely helpful!
So let's get into it before I bore you all :/
(Heres a cheeky picture from IG I love serving mine with steamed Kale or Savoy Cabbage)
Ingredients:
- 1kg of sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into small cubes
- 120g of Philadelphia chives (light!)
- 300g undyed smoked haddock
-  300g Haddock Loin
(to make this a cheaper meal I have used a frozen fish pie mix from Asda which costs about £3)
- 2 tbsp Almond Milk ~ (you can use any milk you like)
(You can use normal potatoes if you like but sweet potatoes have a lot more health benefits - if you want to read more on this check out this article which was brilliant and showing this)
This dish serves 4 people if your a student I would recommend what I do and have this for a meal for 2 days and freeze the rest for another time!
--------------------------------------------------------------
Directions:
-Preheat the oven to 190, gas mark 5
-In a large saucepan cover the potatoes with water bring to the boil and cook for approximately 10 minutes or until soft
(I often cook for a little bit longer to make the mashing easier!)
- Next drain well and mash with 20g of Philly and set aside
(If I have plain light Philly in the fridge then I will use this instead of the chives one)
-Now place the fish in a microwaveable dish with a teaspoon of the milk cover and microwave on high for approximately 5 minutes until just cooked
- Remove any skin and bones, then flake the fish in a large ovenproof dish
-Now combine the remaining Light Chive Philly and milk in a mug and then spoon this over the fish
-Next top with the mashed sweet potato
-Bake for 20 minutes until the Philly sauce is bubbling around the edge of the dish and the potato is browned.
ALL DONE!
NOW you can dig in :D
Wasn't that easy?
And guess what!:
Per Serving - 390 Kcal,  34.3g Protein and 5.4g of fat!
I love love love this dish!
And when I cooked it at home with my mum she loved it too!
This dish is super filling keeping huger pangs at bay and tastes super lush!!
If you have any questions or queries don't hesitate to ask!
DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT MY OWN RECIPE! I JUST WANTED TO SHARE :)
Thanks for reading!

Over Night Oats Recipe!!

Okay so I haven't blogged in a long long long time,
I have recently returned to University and found it difficult to juggle my time!
But I have promised to myself that I will try to find some time to blog at least once a week!
Which for me is a lot!!
I may even blog more but I don't want to promise too much!! :P

Today I thought I would introduce a very different type of blog post,
this is purely because I have started eating healthier and I have been helping my mum with it too,
When putting up pictures on Instagram, twitter, and Facebook I have been asked many questions about the food I have been eating
So I thought the best way to show everyone was writing it up on my blog

So the first thing I have introduced into my diet is this!
Over Night Oats!!

I absolutely love this for breakfast!!
I have to admit that I used to be awful and not eat breakfast at all!
I would try to eat something but would quickly get bored of it and give up and not eat anything :/

However after trying this beaut I would be looking forward to breakfast the next day!!
So here's how to make them::

Ingredients for 1 portion:

1/2 Cup of oats
1/2 Cup of 0% fat Yogurt (I like to use vanilla flavored)
1/2 Cup of Almond Milk
Teaspoon of Unsweetened Cocoa
Teaspoon or a tablespoon of Sweetener (to taste so it depends how sweet you like it)
+ I add a teaspoon of oat bran but this isn't necessary

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Directions:

I add all the ingredients into a beaker because you have to store it in your fridge overnight,  also when putting into a beaker this means that if I run out of time in the morning I can just grab this out of the fridge and take it on the go.

Anyway I start by measuring out the oats then the yogurt then the milk adding them all to the beaker I then mix this all up. I then add the coca mix in and then add the sweetener, lastly adding the oat bran then mixing it all up.
As I have this all in a beaker, at the end I put the lid on and just give it a brisk shake,
now just simply place it in the fridge over night.

The affect of putting this in the fridge over night thickens up the whole mixture which makes it super filling and tastes amazing!

I love topping mine with raspberries!
(I like to buy a big punnet of frozen ones and just un-freeze a couple over night each time I make the overnight oats just before bed.)
You can use anything you like to top your oats!
I know alot of people like to add a dollop of peanut butter on theirs.
(if your being healthy though just check out the ingredients of your peanut butter)

-Also I would like to add if I don't use vanilla flavored yogurt then I do use a plain 0% yogurt then I just add a teaspoon of vanilla essence/extract to the whole mixture at the end and mix in -

I hope that people will find this helpful and will hopefully help to influence and prove to people that healthy eating isn't all that boring and can be truly delicious!!

Thanks for reading!
Hope to be posting again soon :)
